I encourage all of my students to work in their sketchbooks. My =
syllabus states that the sketchbook include thumbnail sketches, drawings =
to scale, photographs, photocopies, found objects, etc.,... of designs =
of form (shape, proportion, and scale) and surface (color, pattern, and =
texture) for pottery, sculpture and tile.
Drawing is one way to generate ideas. In addition to drawing, I suggest =
to my students that making a maquette is another way to work out the =
design of a creative project.
