Thank you, Bill, for the encouragement and the appreciated advice. I've
now glazed a couple more bowls destined to be single-fired for this next
kiln load. What do I have to lose? Not much. What do I have to gain? A
new batch of information to drive me crazy for awhile ... I NEVER
thought that I'd be doing this! My dear friend, Francoise Melville,
single fires always, very successfully ... but I
figured that such was not for the likes of me, although I found Dennis
Parks' book in a thrift shop a couple of years ago and devoured it ...
entrancing! Soooo somewhere this thought must have been mulling about
in my too-many-tracks mind, simultaneously with the NoWay signals I was
emitting.
I remembered Parks' tale about the fifty or so mugs he (or somebody)
glazed for a single-firing .... dipping into the glaze from his front
and turning slightly to place them on a table behind him.... only to
discover in time that most of the mugs were dissolving almost as fast as
he positioned them! Since I haven't been able to sustain the focus
needed to throw fifty mugs at a time anyway, I decided not to worry
about that one.

there NEVER is a "good time" for such things..... it'll give me a chance
though to
study Nils' throwing tapes again (love them) and revisit Robin Hopper's
which are a never-ending source of learning for me. AND memorize my pal
George Ohr's every pot depicted in his book. AND I'm going to
start learning yoga..... at least from the knees up ... guess yoga's one
area you can't just rush and cram and learn.... the two concepts are
antithetical, right?..... ok..... can live with that..... so's the
left and right sides of my contorted brain........
