Speaking of Picasso....
A quote attributed to him is:
"Emotion is the seed,
Art is the flower"

Works for me :-)

no part of it can be set aside and the thing itself still exist.

emotion is the desired effect
creation is the required event
expression is the objective
ideation is the antecedent of art

without an idea that is unique to the individual having it, it is =

not art, it is craft, an exercise, a sketch, an utterance....

the difference between nice things that you would even pay good =

money to own and "art" is whether there is an idea behind it

with a good idea, a motivation to get the idea in the hands of others,
the capacity to create a manifestation of the idea, and the emotional =

reaction of the viewer and the creator to the experience of seeing the =

work...you get the art experience. =

Leave out any factor and you get other things, but not art.

no emotion, it seems dead, intellectual
no creation/craftsmanship, the idea is lost in the failed attempt
no motivation to express, artists who never get around to making anything=
=

outside, so the art is only for themselves, a fine thing but not art
no ideation, a thing like any of the other things that came before it

it takes the whole process, no one part will make the art

he also said to a friend of mine who, as a student, spent some time in the
US and met {sorry, was in the same room as] him there:

"the smallest piece of clay that falls off my wheel onto the floor will be
worth more than anything you will ever do".

True statement? Yes
Evidence of his great awareness of self, and his secured commercial value?
Yes

Helpful, teacherly sort of thing to say to a young aspiring artist? Make
your own mind up.
