Hi Everyone that is interested...
I have been working with clay for a little over three years. I love
everything about clay and handbuilt pieces, sculptural or otherwise,
but after hundreds and hundreds of low temp glaze experiments and
firing after firing after firing I threw in the towel about six
months ago and haven't been able to work since. I could use a
friend, or someone just to help guide me a little once in awhile. I
have invested everything I can into this art form and I don't want to
do anything else, but I'm drowning in self doubt constantly.

I fire my Raku pieces in a wood-fired cross draft kiln that I
designed using an old electirc, with good fire brick left inside. I
added an extremely deep fire box and a very long chimney. It is
surprisingly fuel efficient and retains heat well for subsequent
loads, however, I am wondering if the heavy reduction atmosphere is
causing my pieces to appear somewhat grayish, or dull and dirty
compared to felow raku pieces I have seen, on similiar copper patena
glazes. And what's with the Silver Nitrate, why does it gell like
crazy (I use CMC in my glaze water) and is there any recipe to make
a wash using Silver Nitrate that is actually beautiful???? I am so
afraid to put glaze on anything anymore for fear of ruining another
piece.

I'm looking for "A Raku Angel" please help
thanks for listening,
g.
