Alginate is a terrific life-molding material, available from dentists and
dental-supply houses. It sets fairly quickly and comfortably into a soft
plastic substance. The hand(s) can be wiggled loose and the resulting
cavity filled with plaster. Astonishing detail! The plaster could be the
final product, or could be used as a non-wiggling, non-kvetching 'original'
for a slip-mold, if you prefer a clay result.
