Then you gathered wrong. I was extremely concerned that MMT would NOT be
banned by the governments because Ethyl Corporation had taken first the US
EPA and then the Canadian Government to court. Ethyl won both suits under
NAFTA trade restriction claims. Your Government also had to pay a hefty
amount to compensate Ethyl for the business losses related to the attempt to
ban MMT. And both our governments were forced to withdraw their bans despite
their convictions that MMT should be banned.

Here in the US, EPA has taken another tack to try to stop the use of MMT. In
the July 19, 2000 Federal Register, EPA announced that they have notified
Ethyl Corp and any other registrants of fuels and additives containing MMT
that they are required to do Tier 2 testing. The Tier 2 testing requirements
are within two general categories 1) pharmacokinetic testing of manganese
compounds and 2) characterization of manganese emissions from vehicles
utilizing fuels containing MMT.

In other words, Ethyl went to court saying EPA did not have enough data to
prove that MMT was dangerous and therefor EPA could not restricting their
selling of the product. Now EPA has retaliated by requiring Ethyl to develop
the data themselves and to prove it is safe. We shall see.

It doesn't appear that way to me. And if you like, I'll dig out the two
short articles I wrote in our newsletter on both court settlements and send
them to you to try to help improve your clearly failing and convenient
memory.

Hello Monona,

1-From some of your e-maiIs posted during 1998 I
deducted you were strongly against the use of MMT in gasoline,
Am I wrong?
I am not for or against it; I am awaiting more evidence before making
my mind up. I think the same goes for our canadian politicians.

2-I also deducted you were against the use of inorganic manganese
by potters, or at least to be super cautious.
Am I wrong again?

Hello all,

as for the court decision, I presume both parties supplied their best
evidence
and probably asked their most knowledgable experts to testify verbally, o=
r
by
writing.
I do not think we should question the court's honesty because they ruled
against
EPA and our Federal Govt. It is not a matter of "we are the good guys and
the
others are the bad guys". Spain survived thru the "Inquisition", us in
Canada
do not need to live thru that.
So, MMT was not banned because of insufficient evidence. So what!!!
We will see what will happen later.

As for the fine, I paid a little bit of it thru my income tax,
and it is ok with me, the court ruled and we must abide by.

Later,
