The glazes I referred to were fired in reduction at ^10. ("Thanks to
Craig Martell for the ^10 celadons...."; also, I was figuring it was
understood iron celadons are always fired in reduction, otherwise the
iron would stay brown or yellow.)
However, I should mention that cracks are now appearing in all my
samples of Deller Chun, which were thickly applied. Sob, it's such a
great iceberg-type color! This recipe originally appeared in Clay Times,
Jul/Aug 1998, p. 44. It may have been fired too hot; my kiln went over
^10 and he says ^8 to ^10 for Deller.

Well, now that we are including chuns with the celedons in our musings, i have an
interesting addition to this topic.

Often, celadons and chuns are the right mix to turn copper red. My ceramics III
class last semester did large scale engobe experement, and found that our shop ^10
Celadon, which does that lovely chun opalescence thing where thick, makes the
copper in the engobe underneath turn red.
if you have ever seen little glittery blue bubbles over a feild of copper red, it
is a sight to behold.

Anyone else ever seen this? Maybe it is common knowledge, i dunno. Just thought
I would share this with all the celedon/chun buffs out there......

Sincerely

Jeff Campana
