Dear Clay Arters,

(Yes, I know I quoted mel below.)

My wheels face the wall. On the wall in front of each wheel is a mirror. I look
in the mirror as I throw and turn feet, thus instantly and continually looking at
the shape (not to mention it is hard to sneak up behind me and startle me into
jabbing my fingers where they don't go). Also, people who may not be able to see
the wheel head can see in the mirror. I'm not one bit shy and frequently have
patrons and students touring our studio. Also, throw on TV (pray I don't say *#&#*
if the pot falls and pray it doesn't fall to begin with - and that I can do it fast
enough and can answer questions sensibly - never can anyone trust anything I say
while I'm throwing). The first time I threw at a show I didn't know --- from
shinola and was just sitting there absorbed in my own little world and realized
everything was just too quiet - looked up and all sorts of people were watching
me. It was freaky, and I was scared, but it was good for me. Seeing a pot thrown
is such a magic experience. I love watching others throw and I love hearing the
oohh's that happen as the wall rises. It's FUN and even more fun when shared.

O I love demo throwing. It's especially fun when something COLLAPSES in
front of 50 people standing around.....(no, that was not a joke, it IS
funny.) I have learned to talk while throwing, and people ooooh and aaaaah.
Now what's hilarious is when folks come and see the 10 or so pots I've
thrown in the last 3 hours and say, "Wow, did you do all that
TODAY?!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
