We use this formula on all clay bodies at all temperatures. At cone 10, if
you add large amounts of iron to get medium to dark browns or black, you
should mix a separate batch and reduce the feldspar an amount approximately
equivalent to the iron addition, or else the slip will be over-fluxed and
can blister. Not a very scientific substitution, but it is what I have done
for 20 years with no complaints.
All-Temperature White Base Slip
Kaolin --------------- 34
Ball Clay ------------ 20
Potash Feldspar ---- 27
Silica ---------------- 19
Total --------------- 100
Plus: 8% Zircopax (or other zircon opacifier)
Good luck -

If you wish, you can use the porcelain clay that you use for the body.
All the slips that I use are made this way. You can see details of this
on my web site under 'Making Slip for Decorating'.

I just take the porcelain clay I'm useing and thin it down ti make my slip.
I have never had a problem with fit, beause it's the same body. Have also
used it on ^10 stoneware with no problems. Josie
