I also have some experience with materials which will seemingly not be
affected by sodium vapor. The two most common problems I've noticed are
slips containing the colorants rutile or chrome oxide. I believe these
materials are quite refractory and the sodium appears to have little or no
affect.

I've also noticed this phenomenon in slips which contain alumina oxide. In
particular the slip "Tony's Blaze." Work with this slip is very dry in
spite of other pieces with other decorating slips or glazes in close
proximity having the characteristic "orange peel" or "wet" look associated
with sodium vapor glazing.
