once firing/glazing

This hint helped me a lot. Wipe the "outside" of your piece with a damp
sponge before glazing the "inside". I usually glaze bone to near bone dry
and this equalizes the moisture...prevents cracking. I usually let the piece
set for a minute before doing the other side but not until it dries.
Complicated pieces I often brush glaze on or spray. Using a big sloppy
painters brush works well for me and the "uneven" application makes lots of
glazes more interesting. To my mind raw glazing and once firing is all about
loosening up.
