potters in sf bay area?

Hi, there don't seem to be many potters around here (San Francisco Bay Area).
Probably because it's so dang expensive to live here. But if there are...

1. I could set up an egroup so we could publicize events and maybe get together for
group firings. Maybe even sponsor a workshop now and then. I can't believe with
this huge populations there's never any long workshops (I go to Mendocino Art
Center but it's 5 hours away!)

2. I've got a 4' long x 1' wide x 3" deep wall sculpture that won't fit in my
kiln. If anyone has space, I run a ceramic supply store and can trade discounted
supplies... It is cone 10 clay but I don't care what temp it is fired to, anything
above cone 1 would be fine. Otherwise I'll make it a 2-piece scultpure. That was
my original plan anyway, but I'm liking it how it is...

Look forward to hearing from you. I live in Fremont and work at a software company
for my day job.

Hi Cindi,
You should check out the Clay Art Studio in Walnut Creek, Ca. They often
have workshops. Ph. 925-932 - 9518 ask for Pete Cousulis he is the
studio manager. Mike Gordon

Yes, it is expensive. Thank goodness I bought my house in '76. But there
are many others.

You should look at ACGA ( http://www.acga.net ) The Association WWW site
gives you more information and the newsletters always has a list of
classes, workshops, etc. Walnut Creek or Cupertino (De Anze College) is a
lot closer to you than Mendocino.

Hi,
I don't live in the bay area but you should try www.acga.net. It's the
Association of Clay and Glass Artists of California and it's centered in San
Fran on Cole Street. The site has tons of info. I'm down in Temecula and
trying to do the same thing. Where's the Mendocino Art Center? I've been
in clay for ten years and have yet to go to a workshop!

Hi Cindi

Why not post notices in potters supply stores in the Bay Area? Two I think of
are Leslie's Ceramic Supply on San Pablo in Berkeley and Clay People in
Richmond.
While in that area you might want to call on the Berkeley Potters Guild,
where member Rikki Gill is a Clayarter.

Hi, Cindi. There are tons of potters in the bay area. People occasionally
refer to Berkeley as Mingei-sota West. I think the main concentrations
though, are in the east bay and San Francisco, with enclaves in Marin and
the Concord/Walnut Creek areas. For you, living in Fremont (where, I agree,
potters are kind of sparse)the best bet might be to get in touch with
Barbara Brown in Sunnyvale (408)736-3889, or Bob Millavec at Claymaker (408)
295-3352, or Bill Geisinger in Los Altos (650)969-9322. I think they are
all knowledgeable about the south bay ceramic community.
good luck....
