Bamboo is intensely invasive, so a couple of strategies.
First the caveat that I am NOT a horticulturist, given that info.
then perhaps dig down in the planting area and line it with small mesh
hardware cloth, to prevent the rhizomes from spreading...and still allow for
water to pass through. Perhaps overlap at a crisscross, so the spaces are
small between the cloth opening.
Another strategy is to plant clumping bamboo, rather that running bamboo.
there are distinctly different growing patterns in each variety.
I have some black bamboo that my grandmother planted 80 years ago, and I
have been obsessed with keeping it going in multiple pots. It does get
stressed in pots, but consider the rhizomes grow horizontally, so why not
plant in long rectangular boxes, create the screen affect, and monitor the
roots so they do not invade your world. Better yet, let it invade your
world and love the result.
Hope that helps some.

Don't let bamboo take over your world! it will eventually ruin the
foundations and sewer and water pipes of your home.
Get the clumping kind, and consult with your knowledgeable nursery... last
rumor i heard was that there is only one kind of bamboo that does not cause
huge damage to structures.
Passing along the rumors... but it's worth researching now, before it's too
late.
