It is off topic, but please spare a thought for
a fellow potter in Belgrade. She will be joining
thousands of others on the streets of towns and
cities throughout Yugoslavia (Serbia) today
(Friday) to fight for democratic rule. They need
our help in thought and deed.

According to the BBC tonight, police and army
are on red alert. Will they be told to attack
their own people? Will they obey? Will people be
killed? I attach her own thoughts which I share
with you.

of so many... May the revolution continue
without bloodshed.

We had very dynamic time these days. Tomorrow at
2 o'clock begins the general strike of all the
people in Yugoslavia. It is planned that
everybody is going to stop with their work, and
go out in the street. Details are not known yet,
but I presume if the weather is fine, we are
going to stay out until the present govern party
accepts the defeat at the presidential
elections.
I believe there was no other solution. The
opposition wouldn't go for another round of
elections, because their results tell that they
won. Govern party admits that Kostunica got the
higher percentage of votes, but not enough for
the presidential place. What is going to happen
nobody knows. I think and hope the police and
army forces are not going to turn against their
own people, even if they are told to.
I hope that the next time I write, I will
have some nice news to tell.
I send You many regards from Belgrade.

Dear Janet, I am originally from Yugoslavia and my heart bleeds for the poor
people who have been under one bad regime after another. The West has been
saying that "If the people of Yugosl. rise up against Miloshevic, they will
help them. Well, here we are, the people rose against the dictator and what
is the West doing? I am afraid that the opposition will refuse to vote in
the "run-off" election as advised by the West, since they have already won
more than 50% of the vote (denied by Miloshevic's side). What I am afraid
will happen is that Miloshevic's supporters will vote and then say that they
won the "run-off" election! Please, send me the email of the potter in
Belgrade. I would love to send her a note. Thank you for caring.
