Hi all,
sometime back a couple of Clayarter's (Karen & Russel?) said that they'd
used spray foam for packaging. Well I just tried it & it didn't work. The
foam that I used evidently requires air to cure & I can't figure out how to
get the foam to create a "nest" for the piece & still cure!
What I did was to raise the floor of the box with a roll of tape and an
extra piece of cardboard on top of that. I then put the wrappped art piece
on that & lined the rest (top part) of the box with plastic. I sprayed the
foam in & leveled it. That part worked fine, I had a piece of foam molded
in the shape of 1/2 of the piece. I then took it all out of the box &
flipped it so that the foam was now on the bottom with the piece on top of
that.
After that it got ugly. When I sprayed the foam in, it never got hardened
so I wound up with a bag of soft goop. Two bags actually, cause the bottom
section of foam also never hardened where it was next to the plastic.
So, how do you guys do it? What brand spray do you use? I sure would like
to solve this as some of my pieces are really fragile.

Hi Valice,
I'm the karen who posted one of the messages about the
foam packaging. I found that it would not cure next
to plastic; I use aluminum foil to cover the half I'm
spraying and am very careful not to have any overlap
which would preclude removing it. ALSO, I tried one
brand which says "easy cleanup" and since it's SO
messy I gave it a shot and found that it never "set
up", so don't use that one.
Hope this helps.
