bone ash effect on glaze slurry

updated thu 12 oct 00

Can anyone explain to me why synthetic bone ash (tricalcium
phosphate) would cause a glaze slurry to gel dramatically? This
was truly amazing to see, as I was mixing three glazes, one of
which had bone ash. One minute, they all looked fairly similar, and
the next, I had pudding in the bucket that had the bone ash.
Thanks for any insight.

I have not had that experience with natural bone ash from the pet
crematorium.
So, what is different in the synthetic stuff?
