Hi, Mary,
It sounds as though your glaze and clay body are not vitrified.
This is what is causing the leaks. To do a test, put water in a pot and
let it sit over night. If there is a damp spot in the morning, your clay
and or glaze is not vitrified/mature enough to seal.

Hi everyone!
I've been asking about raku lately but the other half of my work is ^6 white
stoneware that I've been once firing. I've been using 2 "slip glazes" and
I've found that some traditional post bisque glazes work well in once fire
(sometimes with better results)...this depends alot on clay content in the
glaze (the higher the better). I fire to ^6 - ^7 electric kiln fairly
slowly to reduce breaking. This brings me to my question:
I have found with some of my dinnerware pieces that they leak through the
bare clay bottom of say a plate. And this occurs with all of the glazes but
not all the time. Is there any explanation for this? It isn't a major
problem on all forms but a leaky mug is never good!
Does anyone have any suggestions of a different white ^6 body, if that could
be the problem?
Or if anyone also has once fired ^6 and would like to share their recipies
or hints I'd love to hear them!
Thanks,
Mary
