Thanks for the push pin idea. I seized upon an alternate use at =
once, one I had never thought of. When you check bottom thickness during =
throwing, use a push pin ground down to the bottom thickness you want... =
works great! If too thick, the pin makes a little divot you throw down =
to. If too thin, push a little clay back and check again.
I use wire stilts for ladles at cone 10. I built a clay-alumina =
support and inserted Kanthal A-1 11 gauge wire into it cut to the =
lengths needed and sharpened to a point to support the ladles for my =
soup tureens. Fired many loads without mishap.
Shims, I make from the same 40-60 mix of Helmer and alumina slab =
rolled to various thicknesses to allow spacing and leveling shelves when =
large pots cross a seam between two shelves.
