brent c slowing down ?

My Brent C is only 4 months old. Being new to clay I have been only using
a pound of clay(Laguna B mix 5)to make mugs and small bowls. Now I am
starting to make larger pieces,3 to 4 pounds of clay, the wheel is slowing
down when I try to center the clay. My guess is about 25 to 30 rpm`s less
from top speed. Not having used any other electric wheel,I would like to
know if this is normal before I call Brent.

Thank you,
Gene McGovern

Hi, Gene.

My Brent B slows down a bit with larger amounts of clay--say 6 lbs and more.
It's not a problem for me. But I don't think your C model should do this, it
having a stronger motor. I'd call and ask, anyway, if I were you. 30 rpms
sounds like a lot of slowing. You may have a loose belt or a weak motor--I'm
guessing--don't really know much about that part of the wheel, as mine has
always worked like a charm. Call them.

I have a brent c also and have never had any problem with it slowing down,
even throwing large amounts of clay. If it's only 4 months old I think I'd
call the manufacturer or make sure it's not on an breaker with a bunch of
other stuff. If you have it on a power source that shares other things that
come on randomly it may not be getting the proper amount of power. I've
noticed this in my studio and had to do some switching around to get it on a
more or less dedicated breaker. Check to see what shares it's power. If
that doesn't fix it, I'd call Brent.
