I have a kiln laid out much like a flat top, but with an arch. The
stacking space is about 40"w x 50" d. Two power burners come in
horizontally from the back of the kiln. So far, I have been firing with
a target brick in the flame path on each side - about 1/3 of the way back
from the burners, with a very low bag wall - only as high as the top of
the burner port and flue.
The kiln is much hotter at the top until after a long period of
reduction, near the end of the firing. Cones 10 go down together, but it
would be really nice if the 012's went down together too!
This time I am thinking of using an angled target brick at the far end of
the flame path - like in Nils Lou's book.
Where do you put your target bricks?
Thanks!
