Clayarters,

I put into our budget a small amount this year for educational books and
videos. I suppose we will have less than a 1000.00 dollars total and we s=
till
haven't bought the VCR/TV.
Also we have very little to pick from when it comes to books on glazes an=
d
clay work in our local book stores.
Would you be kind enough to let me know which books and videos are sacred=
in
our world of clay right now and which ones would be the best selection fo=
r a
small clay library?
We do raku and hand-building as well as wheel throwing and a lot of glaze=

work. I am told we do need Hamner (?) Also I own several glaze calculatio=
ns
programs but it appears we might be able to buy the latest one out. Any h=
elp
on this is appreciated. =

Since I work most awakening hours at the center and spend the balance beh=
ind
my wheel in my own studio I haven't had a chance to keep up with anything=
at
all in the last six months other than glaze changes and kids. My child is=

lucky, She gets to go to work with me in both places or other-wise she
wouldn't see me very often.
To those of you that have asked about Veronika from Austria. She is doing=

great and her mom is here for a 3 week visit from Germany. She is 80 y.o.=

It's Hamer, Frank and Janet: The Potter's Dictionary of Materials and
Techniques, ISBN 0-7136-3337-9. It's the best general reference I've ever
seen.

There are many good videos & books available. I would certainly recommend
Hamer & Hamer as a general resource, helpful in many, many ways. If you do
a lot of raku, then perhaps a raku book, too - there are several available.
It might be helpful to you to get a catalog from The Potter's Shop, to look
at available books & tapes. Often there are good ones on sale.

As to videos, if you are thinking of how-to types: - Nils Lou has a series
of three that are out, and very good.
Robin Hopper has several, and there are many, many others. There has been
an offer of some tapes made some time back by Richard and Marj Peeler, and
they are VERY inexpensive. I have not seen them yet, but expect to do so
soon. They would undoubtedly be very useful to you.

You can look in CM, too, and see what is available there. And check with
your materials supplier, many carry books.

And, er - shouldn't that be " 'dis week"?

Hi, William.

Okay, are you in Germany or Alabama? If Alabama, I suggest you get your
books from The Potters Shop. I can't seem to locate their brochure at the
moment, but someone on-line should be able to supply that information. No
need to make do with what you can pick up in the local shops.

Are you firing electric? If so, I would definitely recommend Zakin's
"Electric Kiln Ceramics". For Raku, Steven Branfman's book is good. He's
on-line sometimes, and may get back to you with the particulars as to both
the Potters Shop, and his book.
