Bat conservation is not confined to California. People really are ignorant
on the roll of bats in the world, there are alot of myths and misconceptions
about bats. You should check out the web site from

You mean I can get rabies from my bats!?
Is this limited to Plasti-bats, or also masonite bats?
It's truly amazing that this list is such a great resource
for potters.
In Texas, I have done my part for bat conservation, using
the same Formica bats for more than 25 years.
The biggest misconception I find from visitors to my shop
is that they think my bats are really the left-over part
from a countertop when a sink was installed.

David- your bats are only dangerous if they bite you, so be kind to them,
only throw pots they approve of...

Oh, David
You're such an innocent. Just make sure all your bats are properly
inoculated. You can probably get out-dated but still good vaccines from your
local vet. And those used syringes can still be recycled if you autoclave
them. Just use your pressure cooker, okay?
And while we're on the subject, do your bats have suitable housing? They're
most comfortable in boxes partitioned off into thin "cubbies", you know,
like the cookie sheet cupboards some people have in their kitchens. Be sure
to provide them with good ventilation. And watch out for them swooping about
the studio at night. You don't want them knocking pots over or anything.
