a compote is a form that sells well and adapts =
to many people's style to make, like a casserole.
some people call them cake stands. I don't use =
them for cake, so I call them by the antiques =
roadshow guy's name. They sell at =
fairly high prices ($125) because they are very hard
to find in pottery, easy in ceramics.
the form is basicly a plate sitting on top of a pot.
It can adapt to any style and has a wide open range =
in the base part for extruder people, especially.
Make it not "tippy" and you can sell as many as =
you can make. But be sure you mess with it until =
it is yours. I followed the thread
on making forms that sell and thought: =
any form is something that you can start making =
and selling, the trick is making the thing in such =
a way that you get interested in making it. If I am =
making a Tanjhin just like the one I saw at the restaurant, =
it is an intellectual exercise, not a pot. I want to make pots!
I also got interested in compotes, now I make them, and they sell!
=
