The Members of the San Antonio Potters' Guild held their first Empty Bowls
project this past weekend at the Southwest School of Art and Crafts. I am
proud to report that the Guild raised over $11,000. The funds are to be
donated to the San Antonio Metropolitan Ministries Women's and Children's
Shelter. Bowl donations from member potters and other individuals approached
1000 in number. We accepted ceramic donations to a silent auction as well.
Vendors and caterers from as many as 10 restaurants provided delicious soups
and baked bread. Everything right down to the napkins and spoons were
donated from local businesses. The community response was more than we had
hoped for, most of the bowls and soup were "gobbled up" in the first two
hours.
I can't adequately describe the volunteer effort that took place beginning
with planning meetings and the way the members stepped in and made this
first event such a tremendous success. Our event coordinator described it as
she said, "when you give unselfishly yourself, so much more comes back to
you threefold in waves of good emotions that shake your soul." I agree.
Still riding that high!
