^6 ox clear

Whoever wanted a clear to try, I submit this one. They are several ways =
I
have formulated this clear and several clays I have used it on. Wollaston=
ite
and NC4 and other variations have been used.
I am aware of some ways this could be altered to save money or the additi=
on of
certain ingredients but for my own purpose this one worked best.

Wm Edwards ^6 ox Clear

Whiting ( Calcium Carbonate ) 12.50
Epk Kaolin 12.50
Nepheline Syenite 20.00
Ferro Frit 3134 25.00
Flint ( Quartz Silica ) 30.00

Since the loss of Gerstley Borate (rest in peace) I have manipulated so m=
any
glazes that I am covered up in new bases and formula's. I always suggest
proper testing since some glazes are not for food based surfaces. Also yo=
u
might consider testing for such anytime you alter a glaze even in the lea=
st
way.
I did not get any negative results when I used this on several clay bodie=
s I
test on. B-Mix being one of them. (5-7) =

Now if any of you are kind enough to help me find a yellow that works in =
this
glaze it would be very appreciated since I haven't had the time to do thi=
s. =

It does have plenty of CaO and is balanced I believe. (Al203/SiO2) I doub=
t it
would support chrome tin colors but I haven't tried that one either.
According to calculations it most likely would not but thats not always b=
een
the case in my research of Chrome Tin. =

I will also suggest those who test this to try a little Cobalt or Iron in=
this
glaze when you get a chance. A student made the mistake of getting a coba=
lt
smear on a test piece and it showed up like a magnified fingerprint.
Currently I am working on yellows to orange without encapsulated oxides.
Should you find a stain that works well let me know! Vanadium pentoxide i=
s
another material I use but with caution. (Also expensive)
Any ideas are appreciated. Chrome Tin is also still in the testing phases=

without GB. All are ^6 ox.
Remember to wear your NIOSH approved mask and those rubber gloves and apr=
ons.

Let me know your results. Happy Testing!

William Edwards

"I think I voted, I can't remember?" =

The place in Alabama where you get too much SiO2 from the dust of all the=
se
dirt roads.
