I have heard that Sea Grove is a place to go when down at NCECA next March.
What or who is there? Can someone give me an email address or to get
information about Sea Grove. I'm trying to decide on visiting there or
doing a workshop prior to the conference. Any information is greatly
appreciated. Thanks.

Pam

pam,
seagrove is the "historic center" of north carolina clay, or i should say
one of the centers, cause i know someone will jump down my throat if i say
it "is the center". anyway there are a shit load (excuse my french) of
potters there! I know for a fact that ben owens III is there, he just
finished his new studio and boy is it nice!!! i guess it is relatively close
to charlotte also. One more piece of info though, there is a pre conference
trip planned by nceca that is going to asheville n.c. , penland, and varoius
potters studios(probably to include: bringle, joerling, ireland, maybe
further north into lindsay, rugles rankin , ) i am not sure of the exacts of
this tour. the add was run in CM i think, so call the # on the add if
interested.
i know there is an unloading of the unca anagama the my friend hunter stamps
and i will be firing! so think about that.

If the known universe does not include New Zealand. I recently saw on a PBS
special that there are more potters per capita in NZ than anywhere else in
the world. (mark this on the calendar, I actually used PBS as a reference.)

Pam,

Seagrove, NC, is the Pottery Capital of the Known Universe. There are over
100 working potteries located in this teeny town (no stoplights!), most of
which are open to the public. One name you may have heard is Ben Owens. I
believe Ben 1 and 2 are either retired or deceased (or both!), but Ben 3 is
going strong. You may also have heard of Charlie Riggs and Tom Gray, both
of whom are or have been, participants on this list. They are both in the
Seagrove area. (Charlie isn't actually in Seagrove proper, but is
represented by Blue Moon Gallery there.) Hey, even _I_, lowly non-Seagrove
potter that I am, have work at LDDK, a gallery in Seagrove. So as you can
see, there will be a variety of work for you to see once you get there!

Don't quote me, but I think there may be a bus trip to Seagrove available
from NCECA. Jim Connell at Winthrop U will be better able to tell you;
check the NCECA website for his contact info.
