Hi Everybody!
I made a mistake, in my last post. I guess I'm breathing too much sawdust
today. Indeed, Cassius Basaltic clay is a mid-fire clay, while Black Mountain
is a high-fire clay. Please don't get the two mixed up--Black Mountain looks
unfinished (underfired) when fired to Cone 6, while Cassius Clay will mess up
your kiln if you fire over Cone 6.
But when either clay is fired to its respective Cone, the results are
marvelous!
I'd like to add that both clays are fabulous when unglazed, and fired in a
reduction environment. In fact, the contents of both clays "eat"
glazes--believe me, I've tried many different glazes, but with little or no
success.
Thanks everyone, for learning, teaching, cajoling, and correcting, in your
posts. This is my kind of Master's Degree!
