Hello Clayart,
I have recently moved, am up and running, ran out of some glaze, went to mix
some more...HORROR! My Ohaus triple beam scale is missing a critical part,
the center poise (pointer). I have contacted Ohaus, they gave me a part
number (3135-10) and told me it would be $10. The problem is, they won't
sell me just that one part, there is a $50 minimum. I have searched and
contacted several other companies, gotten no response. Anyone have an idea
of where to go to order it fairly quickly without the requirement for a
minimum? I am dead in the water till I can get more glazes mixed! Thanks
for any ideas/help.

Heck just weigh out 10 g. of a material using the first poise, and then
using some sheet metal or lead sheet make a poise for the center beam
trimming it till it balances at the 10g. point. Got to be the most non
technical fix there is...a balance is a balance, regardless of what is
balancing...

Gail,

Would Ohaus be willing to tell you how much that poise weighs? Or perhaps
you can find someone who has two scales so that they could weigh the center
poise and let you know how much it weighs? You could then just make a
matching weight. All it has to have is a stiff wire or something that will
let it hang straight down in the little notch properly.

Yes, police auctions often have nice gram scales.
(They confiscate them from drug dealers, whose
need for accuracy in small quantities may even
exceed ours!) They're not always cheap, though.
