how to fire local clay?- response

I make a small pinch pot of a clay I know...
I then take a bead of the test clay and place it
inside the pinch pot and fire at my desired temp.
If the bead melts into a puddle, the test clay is low fire,
if it keeps it's shape it should be okay.
