I have moved from earthenware and porcelain into
stoneware for now........
I have no experience making my own glazes but
wondered if someone might answer a question as I
am needing the info quickly without time to do a
lot of test glazing.

Am making some pieces with white stoneware
body,clear glazing at ^6.
Can I use gold lustres and mother of pearl
overglazes and fire successfully at ^019 and ^022
on these pieces as I do on porcelain?? I am on
digest so a private email would be lovely and much
appreciated.

thanx,Leava

do not try to put luster or gold pieces on Functional wear as they don't
go in the dishwasher..they will dissapear completely...and customers
never seem to remember and want their money back....Ilene in Conn....

Not just the dishwasher, Ilene...

Lustre on functional ware which is put into the
microwave will not do either the oven or the pot
any good at all.

Although there is a warning in the
manufacturer's instructions not to put lustre or
"gold" ceramics into a microwave, who remembers
that in the middle of a dinner party? A loud
bang and flash, plus blackened gold where it was
zapped gave this already harassed hostess a
nasty shock.

Did nothing to enhance my evening, although it
gave certain (not all) of the men something to
smirk about... You know that male myth, "women
and technology don't mix"... They looked most
disbelieving when Eckhard told them I was
actually the sparky in this house and he cannot
even change a plug! At least it gave me a chance
to smirk too!
