I got my first pots into the Noborigama. Most (7 pots) went
into the 3rd chamber (Oxidation chamber.) That's where kaki works the
best. I wanted to do the traditional Mashiko glazing: Limestone base,
Nuka on the inside, Sage Nuka (copper green) on the outside for decoration
(which is covered with wax resist) and then Kaki on top. With the Sage, I
made the image of the Taiko Bashi (drum bridge) at my family's shrine in
Sakai, near Osaka. Also put nuka , decorated with black in the 3rd
chamber. On the pot in the second chamber (reduction) I used the shop's
ash glaze (oak ash, natural ball clay and a little kaolin.) Student work
fits on the floor on the sides and under the first kiln shelves. I was
lucky to get space on the side for a couple of my taller things.

Fukiyan is firing the kiln, with the help of Mitsuyan, us Deshis and
a couple graduated students. Tomorrow night, I take the midnight to 8am
shift all by myself, stoking the pre-heating wood into the noborigama.
Unlike the other Deshis (I am from Minnesota) I have gortex boots, insulated
pants and a down coat. I won't be cold. ;^)
