Around here the "Hobby Ceramics" (slip cast bought greenware) folks
think that ceramics applies to them and that pottery is where you make
the whole piece by hand or with the aid of a wheel.

We learned that Pottery consisted of vessels, and various pots
(functional). Pottery was part of the large category of Ceramics which
included pottery, glass, portland cement, grinding stones/wheels, bricks
and kiln furniture. Forgive me if I have forgotten any other items.
F. Carlton Ball always included Glass eyes for the shock factor.

Just my two cents worth.

Oh, and Snail, as to: "How much in American money is a pound?" I don't
know never weighed a dollar, but I have had occasion to order Auto and
Motorcycle parts from England and it seems that these items seem to
require a stack of "ones" ($1.00) that are equal in weight to the
part. Also the English in the Motorcycle restoration Business classify
some things as "Unobtanium" accounting for the pricing by weight. ;c)
