Here's one from Hal's Glaze of the Week for August. I've fired it twice
and it has seemed (so far) dependably light blue/gray with a creamy to
tan hazelike effect in a few spots. I'll keep putting a piece in each
firing to see what happens next. It's not my favorite glaze, by the way,
although I do indeed appreciate Hal's work .... it's pretty subtle and I
tend to like a bit more drama in my glazes.
Hal's post begins here:
MARY'S FLOATING BLUE
CONE 8-10 REDUCTION
bone ash 4
silica 25
gertsley borate 7
magnesium carb 3
neph syn 40
light rutile 3
whiting 10
zinc oxide 5
illmanite 2
cobalt carb 0.5
The quintessential balanced glaze type, it encourages reliable, durable
non-flowing glazes with appealing surfaces. This group was developed at
the
University of Maryland inthe mid 1970's.. I guess by this time it is in
the
category of historical glazes.
