Oh dear, I'm in such a quandary.
I read the posts about the upcoming mug exchange with despair... alas, I
will not be attending the grand event, and thought I would not be able
to participate.
And then, oh joy! Two mentions of an "At Home Mug Exchange". Happy Day.
And then, the ultimate realization.
I am a sculptor (I like sculptress, myself), not a potter. I may again
be a potter, but discovered that I preferred the world of handbuilding
to the frustration of throwing, and have yet to return to the wheel.
Despite my lack of affinity with the wheel, I have always felt at home
on this list. BUT, I do not have a shelf full of mugs, hiding behind my
back, quietly conversing about who might be the chosen one for the
exchange, where they might go... I do not have mug one anywhere. I
guess if I want to take part in the exchange, I best get to building one quickly!
I love this list.

Denise:
Your exchange doesn't HAVE to be a mug - last year I got a gorgeous horsehair pot
from thevery talented Audrey Skeen, and she requested a miniature in return.

I cannot speak for the at home exchange, but the last two exchanges at
NCECA had a couple of items that were not mugs. I saw delightful saucers
and even a cool ray gun complete with lighting and sound effects :D
I personally have put all my goodies in a safe place where I can look at
them rather than use/dring out of them which is part of the rationale
behind the making of a mug for the exchange, I gather. I'd rather have
something representative of the person's work than a mug just 'cuz. :)

Yes, I have learned from my mistakes...
I can reproduce them exactly.

Denise,
I want you to know that I got one of the best, non mug, mug forms at the clayart mug
exchange in Ohio, I got The RAY GUN made by Amber Pelish. she is a hand builder and
started with a mug form and built onto it making it into a wonderful, colorful, sound
and light show. So Please sculpt away.

Denise,
Never fear. In the past, at least, "mug" has been defined with
superlative looseness. Pretty much, "anything you want that's
about the size of a mug, more or less". Some people specifically
wanted mugs, and so I matched them with people who specifically
made mugs, but otherwise, anything goes. I got turtles, one year.

Your "turtle" exchange got my attention as is my quirk. . .some people
collect leaves---I'm for the turtle---I haven't been able to decipher the
posts as yet and would love being on the MUG exchange list-is one actually
being put together and how do we know we've gottten on it. .. Cy

Hi Cy,
I collect turtles too. One of the things that I have been doing is
making my own turtle knick-knacks for my shadow boxes. Do you make
turtles too? Maybe we could exchange turtles. This would of course be
independent of the mug swap on clayart.
