My name is Nathaniel Thomas. I recently graduated from Bates College having
majored in history. I took a few ceramics courses (too late for I would have
been an art major) and fell in love with throwing. This fall I purchased a
wheel and kiln and have been throwing and showing in my father's studio. I
would like more teaching and am willing to work for a meager wage in order
to learn. I am looking for possible work/apprenticeship in the northern
Mass, southern New Hampshire/Maine arean from January 2001 on. If anyone is
interested in hiring a tireless, hardworking potter I am your person. I have
recomendations if wanted and am willing to travel in order to show you my
work. Anything, even a lead to another potter would be helpful. Please let
me know of any possibilities.
Thanks,
Nate Thomas

NAte, I don't know about individual potters looking for apprentices, but
there is a major production studio in that area called Salmon Falls. They
are frequently hiring. I have no contact information for them, but I am sure
you could find something on the web. There is also a really cool place
called Great Bay Pottery 150 Lafayette Rd Route One, Rye, New Hampshire
(603) 964-1118 www.greatbaypottery.com , I visited their OLD studio just as
they were moving, seemed like a nice little studio, with a production line
and some individual pots from the various throwers they had working there. I
liked the fact that they had display room for the individual potters as
well. I bought a small saltfired teabowl while I was visiting.

Good luck!

Charles
