I've had good luck using shellac to resist scrubbing, leaving nice =
raised patterns. It doesn't gum up like waxes tend to. Try several =
applications, as the thinnest coverage's don't resist the scrubbing for =
as long. I like to mix it up with light and heavy applications, causing =
both sharp edges and gradual tapering. You may want to try some slips =
or oxides as well, these can often make the contrast crisp and can widen =
your palette.

Shellac makes a good resist for other things too. In addition to =
glazing I use it to separate galleries from lids when handbuilding. You =
can mold a lid right on a pot, and it pops away easily once leather =
hard. Works great to retard drying on wide lipped platters etc.
