Oops and sorry! Here is the real scoop on my use of the metallic
luster. In my first use of the metallic luster I brushed it on a burnished
pot. The luster remained after a blackware firing only on the the dull
decorated surface and rubbed off the highly polished areas. I did some
further experimenting with the luster and began to spray diluted metallic
luster (about 1 part luster to 16 to 20 parts lacquer thinner) on
burnished pieces which I blackware fired. I don't recommend spray lacquer
thinner unless there is adequate ventilation or preferably out of door.
Spraying required that I spray a little, let it dry a minute or two, then
spray more, etc. about three times until the diluted luster surface started
to look like what water does on a waxed auto. Then I quit
spraying. After firing, the surface color varied but generally was a very
nice deep maroon-like to copper to an occasional gold like color - very
unpredictable! The luster soaked into the dull painted decoration and
remained on the surface of the polished areas in this scenario.
