bisque firing temperatures?

I usually bisque fire to cone 04, I've heard other people say that 06 is enough.  This is just what I was taught, never questioning.  The longer I'm on ClayArt, the more I want to know "why".

Following the recent posts concerning single firing / not bisque firing at all, I'm curious if anyone uses a lower temperture bisque firing.

I realize the lower temperature used will make the body more porous, and it sucks the water out of the glaze faster.  What are the advatages to a higher / lower bisque temperature?
