i think craig has some reason to unsure of ifb/salt/itc.

we have had some deterioration on our salt kiln at the farm.

mainly on the ifb's.

if i were going to do it all over again, i would veneer the
entire inside of the kiln (ifb's) with kaowool soaked in
itc 100. that has held up very well. it is very easy to repair.

to make a salt kiln with ifb, with just a coating of itc 100
could start to break down after maybe 60 firings.

god knows how long it would last with a veneer job.

that kiln we built at the farm is still one of the best kilns i
have ever used. we all just love it. fires even, fast if needed,
and is just a great kiln.

and yes, we have had to repair bits and pieces as i have reported.
but, all in all it has held up just fine. i would still veneer, if doing
it again.

basically veneering is just using 10 inch square pieces of one inch
thick kaowool blanket, soaked in itc 100..smashed into the brick.
dried, fired to cone 010 or so. then fired. repair as needed...takes
just a minute...take soaked kaowool and smash it into any blems.

Just so I have this strait Mel... The ITC100 is acting as a protectant and
adhesive? Is there no other adhesive used in applying the fiber to the
brick?
Does the fiber absorb the 100 readily? Just take it out after soaking and
smash into the brick, right?
Guess I should not spray the brick w/ any ITC product prior to doing this;
is that a correct assumption?
