I have the opportunity to begin working with earthenware soon (I've been
working with stoneware and porcelain for several years). I'm most interested
in trying my hand at majolica glazing and I would like to know if any of the
members of this list have tried either A.R.T.'s Glazewerks majolica glazes or
Amaco's version? If you have, would you please tell me what your opinions
are on these?
I greatly appreciate the help I receive from the people on this list! Thank
you and Happy Holidays!
Susie

Love Amaco. Greens have a tendency to gray. Have use on their
glaze and on other white glazes. Alway seem to turn out well
during a cone 6 firing.

I have been using the Amoco Majolica colors for a few months now in place of
my gerstly borate & stain combination. I have been quite satisfied with the
result. Many of the color variations that I could not get to flux right
before are now availible. I also used velvet underglazes to fill in gaps in
my pallette and some worked quite well also.
If you want to see the results go to my web site and follow the links to my
new work section. Pretty much all of my butter dishes have Amoco majolica. I
still use chrome oxide/GB for greens, Mason mazerine for blue, Copper carb
for turquiose and drakenfield yellow (41543). I would advise testing the
colors you want to use and developing your pallette based on the results of
the testing.

God luck.
