it is such a joy to have nils with us....he is a very kind, wonderful
friend. his take on the blue is very simple. he feels i added too much
iron. `iron kills cobalt in his experience. just a pinch will do.`
of course, he likes the blue....says i am full of shxx/. he is more than
likely correct. he is an expert at shxx.
mel/ waiting for terrific art friends to arrive. god, my birthday...what
a rush. 66 nils and i are both mentally 45. that is a gift.

Only Mel would have the gall to mention blue
with such enthusiasm and in the subject line
too... He is supposed to be a "real" potter for
goodness sakes...

The decimal point slipped there, Mel... You
surely mean 4.5 (four-point-five). Now THAT IS a
real gift! Retaining the enthusiasm, wonder,
vitality and learning powers of a four
going-on-five year old. You do a pretty good
job, so keep it up! Non of this turgid
forty-something nonsense please!

Have a happy birthday. And a happy, healthy,
productive and entirely blue New Year!

Eckhard's birthday cake. Fancy making 60 on
01.01.01!!! But then, I am his third wife!
Wooo-hooooo :-)

Hmmmm. The blue didn't show so well,
but the intestine was PERFECT. Abuse?
No, no, no, Mel. We only try to help you
stay modest, self-effacing, quiet, humble. No
abuse intended.

P.S. I did think, however, that the intestine
brushwork was not quite up to your ususal standard.

The glaze-on-glaze brushwork has a nice peristalsic rhythm.

I seem to be missing something here---when I go to Mel's website and click
on "clayart", all I get is three photos of the St. Augustine thing. No
pots, no blue plate special (with or without intestines). What's up?
Dai in Armstrong, BC, feeling decidedly left out!

Dai, I wonder if you just need to empty your browser's disk Cache?

Call me dense, but I don't understand the trouble with blue. Natural
Indigo is my favorite color.

My teacher gave me a cobalt blue salt glazed tea bowl as a graduation
present (I finished my 3 year apprenticeship the end of February.) You can see
a photo of the teabowl here:

Also just started building my "Euan Craig FastFire Woodkiln." You can
see the first 4 levels of bricks at the above page too. As I build it, I will
put up more photos.
