I do not know why, Robert you decided to fire in ^3, My neighbor ceramic
artist, she makes ceramic walls around, fire to 1175C between ^3 and 4. I
have a suggestion to you, I tried it once and works good. I tried to fire
some low fire glaze up to ^6.
Take some low fire glazes and try them at ^3, they will be shinier, may be
some will run.

Yes, Richard, I go up to cone 3. Cone 3 bends at the top of the kiln, which
is where the larger pots are located.
I will forward glaze recipes soon.
What would be very helpful is if we could exchange the molecular formulae
rather than recipes.
We could then find out what limits others are using at this level.
There seems to be a great difference between 01 glazes and cone 6 glazes as
far as limits are concerned. This may be because we pass from the
temperatures where CaO3 does little to the final glaze into the area where
it is an active flux.
Working at the borders has always seemed more interesting to me, than
working within a well known and studied area. Something about bucking the
system I suppose.

Hi Richard, I seem to remember that Woody Hughs fires his earthenware to
cone 3...several articles in Ceramics Monthly with recipes for body as well
as glazes. I can't look them up at the moment, but there is a yearly index
in the back of the magazine each December. Do you have access to the
magazine? Lori in New Port Richey Fl.
