Tested on mid range, iron flecked stoneware, fired to cone 1220c, =
oxidation.
TEST ONE
Lana's Ball Crawl
Receipe
60 neph. Sye
22 Magnesium Carb.
18 Ball Clay
Comments: Brushed on thick for texture,=20
Lana sprays it on
Resulted in Matt to gloss heavey withe glaze. No crawling or balling, =
but could be test surface was too limited.
TEST TWO
Fake Shino Blend
Receipe
ANY Glaze, add 10, 20, 30, 40,. 50% Magnesuim Carb.
Used a white matt premixed glaze for test trial
10% showed one big pinhole.
20% dry surface, with few pimples on edges.
30% same, more pimples
40% dry surface with pimples overall and high bubbles with some =
that broke open.
50% similar, but brushed not as thick as above, and noenof the =
pimples were broken.
Personal: I am not sure if I added the percents correctly. I added each =
percent of Magnesium carb. to 100 grams of base glaze.
Now that I am writing this, I realize I probably should have done it =
like a line blend, 90/10, 80/20. 30/70. 40/60, 50/50. Ababy?
In any case, with 40% Magnesium carb. , the glaze surface looked like it =
ate a french fries, a bag of chips, chocolate and coke.
Could be a good contrast to a smooth matt with color like Marcia's =
turquoise, for non functional.
TEST 3
Same as above, but mixed into a clear gloss premixed glaze.
No surface change until 50% magnesium carb. was added. =20
Overall glaze color became a honey yellow.
TEST 4
Korean 22, cone 6, oxidation.
Receipe
60 Potash Feldspar
10 Flint
10 whiting
26 Magnesium Carb.
7 Tin oxide
4 Lithium Carb.
Resulted in a glze similar to Lana's, but whiter in color and all matt. =
No texture except extremely thick and covering.
Interesting trials.
Best regards,
