I used to have a variety of these mushroom shaped things large enough to
support the whole pot upon which I would invert the leather hard pot after
trimming and compress the middle of the bottom with a jab of my porcelain
pestle thingie....I think the morter is the bowl and the pestle is the
other half....anyway that used to go a long way toward solving that problem
for me. The one shape I loved to throw off the hump was bowls and the foot
was small enough in diameter to make such a solution feasible. I guess
with plates you might use a rib to do the compression.
