In "Pottery Making Illustrated," Fall 2000 (pp. 17-22), there are two
articles that should prove useful to you.

Ivor Lewis's "The Dynamic Art of Throwing Clay," and Jeff Zamek's
"Preventing S-Cracks" illustrate the stresses that clay faces in the
throwing process and how to avoid those stresses. The articles are brief
and very nicely illustrated.
