Hi,
I am drawing up plans for a two-chamber wood kiln here at SIU-C, and
have been playing with different arch styles. The current thought is to
build multiple-radius Roman (barrel) arches. The downhill side will have a
27 inch radius through 90 degrees, while the uphill side will have only an
18 inch radius (also 90 degrees). Total span of the arch will be 45 inches
(27+18). The downhill wall (9" thick) will be shorter than the uphill wall
(13" thick wall supports two arches and divides chambers) by 9 inches.

Question: How much steel bracing do arches like this need, and am I better
off doing offset catenaries?

Thanks
