care drying them once attached."

Shame on you Gayle :}
Easy way: buy a box of plastic sandwich bags, 150 to a box WOW. I cover the
handle with one after trimming, let the piece sit out and when I see that the
handle is damper than the rest, take off the plastic. Easy. Best of all, no
cracking. Now if I had sent that one to "suggestions" at CM I may have got a
$10 check for it. Ha

I hang my head in shame(-(
Great idea Joyce! I think you
still have time to send it into
CM before anyone else! After all
$10 is $10!->

Hey there Tig....

I used to have problems with drying
and attaching handles...
My cracks were at the point of
attachment....the two pieces
did not want to join forces.
my solution was to make the
attachment as soon as possible...
so the clay is still pretty wet...
each bit the cup and the handle.
the water content of the two
needs to be pretty equal.

My guess is that the clay wrapped
around the PVC is setting up the
potential cracks...and they
just develop in later stages.

On another note...I have
made small handbuilt house forms
for about 20 years....
so I am guessing I know how
to accomplish the task successfully.
I decided to make some houses
using Coleman porcelain...
each one cracked...
so it's the clay.
While I think Coleman is
great for throwing...it's not
so great for handbuilding...which
would include your handle problem.

Try the process with another clay...
and compare notes...see if you have
more success.

Hope all is well...
