Just a note to say thanks to Alisa in Denmark, who is always so good with
posting her glaze tests.
Our community studio here just ran out of our supply of Gerstley Borate.
So, I tried a simple replacement of Laguna Borate for our Floating Blue
recipe and it didn't work. My students began to panic at the thought of
losing what has become a very stable and popular glaze.
So, I just went to the Clayart archives.
Sure enough, back in December, Alisa had posted test results for a
Gerstley-free Floating Blue, Cobbeldi Floating Blue. My tests came out a
little better than her's. I fired at cone 6 first and got green. Then I fired
at cone 5 and got a very nice blue that is a close match to our old floating
blue. Also, I made sure the coating was thick. Too thin and it will go brown.
Here's the recipe for those who missed Alisa's test:

Neph Syn 43.26
EPK 13.67
Frit 3134 32.81
Flint 10.26

Red Iron Oxide 2
Cobalt Oxide 1
Rutile 4
Bentonite 2

Thanks again to Alisa and the good old archives.
