Hi Craig,
your first sentence caught my attention--as we were planning to spray a new
hard brick kiln with itc. i'll go check out the archives, but if you (or
anyone) feel like sharing a little more with me on the subject, it would be
most welcome--

thanks, Jane in OK

Hello Jo Ann:

ITC doesn't work well with hard brick. It really causes problems with
hards that have been salted. I sprayed my salt kiln with ITC after
knocking off all the slag, using a pneumatic wire brush head to rough up
the brick, vacuumed the kiln, then pressure washed it and sprayed with ITC.

The kiln isn't too bad but after many firings I'm still getting little
chunks of ITC on pots. My kiln had only been fired about 3 times when I
did the ITC job.

I would advise against doing this. Others may disagree and give you their
reasons for using ITC on a hard brick salter.

Hello Jane:

If I had more info to pass along I'd sure do it but I think I've pretty
much said what I can. One thing you might think about doing is spraying
the bricks with a high alumina wash. 75% alumina oxide and 25% china clay
is what I've used.

I also called the folks at ITC and told them what I was going to do and
Alice said it would work OK. I don't think it worked very well. Not a
complete failure, but not worth the money and time it took to apply ITC to
my kiln.

Sorry I can't tell you more than this. Craig Martell in Oregon
