Hi all

Belated thanks to those that responded to my requests for information about
taking zinc oxide out of a glaze. I have been off-list for about four weeks
while on holiday.

Thanks Dave Finkelnburg, I had a bit of a look at a chemistry book and did
some reading about the mole. Thanks also Earl Brunner, I also had a look at
the clayart archives - heaps of good stuff there.

Thanks Jonathan Kaplan, I have tested the easiest suggestion, just taking
zinc oxide out of the recipe without replacing it with anything. This gave
a bubble free but mat glaze which was kind of expected. It did give the
colour response that I expected with chrome, a good green with chrome. I
only glost fire every week or two, so that is the only test that I have got
through. For my next tests I will remove the zinc and then increase the
fluxes/decrease the alumina and silica to restore their balance as you and
Ron Roy suggested. I might also try adding half the amount of lithium carb
as Dave F suggested.

Ron, the cost of Strontium Carbonate over here is $49 for 500g!!!! (I think
our dollar is worth about US40cents? so I don't want to use it.

Thanks also to David Hendley.

I'll post results when I get them through the kiln.
